Providence Health & Services “The Epic Journey”

Providence is on an Epic journey to connect care teams and patients through a powerful electronic health record, giving easy access to comprehensive health information anywhere in the world. Epic gives Providence an integrated suite of health care software that supports all of the functions related to patient care including registration, scheduling, clinical documentation and billing from a single medical record.

Their goal is a place where patients receive more personalized service centered on their health and personal goals; and where care teams use an entire system of knowledge at light speed allowing more time to know, care for and ease each patient’s way.

Providence – Oregon called upon Xtreme Communications, their premier low voltage communications cabling contractor to work with them at St. Vincent’s, Willamette Falls, Newberg and Hood River Medical Centers along with Providence Medical Groups located throughout Oregon to upgrade their cabling infrastructure to meet the demanding bandwidth of the “EPIC” upgrade.

We started in November 2011 at St. Vincent’s and March 2012 at Hood River and installed over 60 miles of category 6 cables throughout the hospitals adding over 600 new computer locations for the EPIC software.  At the peak of construction in February 2012 we had 33 technicians working a long weekend to meet the unforgiving timeline that Providence presented to the Xtreme Team.

In the spring of 2012 we moved to Newberg and summer to Willamette Falls Medical Centers and installed over 45 miles of category 6 cables adding over 1200 computer locations.  We are in the final stages of finishing up the Willamette Falls project and will be completed in December 2012.
